Over the next couple of days I will be talking about identity in the context of marketing. In order to do marketing effectively, we need to first understand our focus. This gives us perspective and a sense of who we are in relation to our surroundings. Most marketers would agree they are important in the organization they work for, some would even go so far as to say they are indispensable! They have a vested interest of course: their jobs!
Let’s say for the sake of argument that even some non-marketing folk agree that marketing plays a pivotal role in their business, then we’d have to ask:
What is important in marketing?
Simple question, the answer though is not as outright. For starters it’s definitely not the product, or any of the other Ps. Is it the positioning? The customer base? The competition? I would argue that none of these things alone are at the heart of marketing.
This is the question I will be examining in the upcoming days and I hope you will join me in my quest for the answer! This is the first post in a three part series. Please feel free to share your thoughts along the way.
