Everyone wants a relationship with the customer - from the guy selling onions to the toothbrush maker. Some customers just want to consume and not get involved - well, there’s even a category for that.
No doubt viral marketing, CRM and cultural marketing have their benefits. The future of marketing is probably going to be at the intersection of reality with the digital world.
When that happens relationship marketing will seem like a fad. Its here to stay.
